The Friends of the Lincoln Collection of Indiana Announces the 2021 McMurtry Lecture with Professor David S. Reynolds:
What were the influences that shaped Abraham Lincoln? How did Lincoln rise from his rough background to become, in Tolstoy’s words, “the only real giant” among “all the great national heroes and statesmen of history,” the leader whom Karl Marx called “one of the rare men who succeed in becoming great, without ceasing to be good”? David S. Reynolds, drawing on his prize-winning biography Abe, presents new perspectives on several key influences, including Lincoln’s family, his frontier experiences, his reading, his friendships, his marriage, his law career, and Springfield.
David Reynolds is a multi-award winning author and is a Distinguished Professor at CUNY. His most recent book, Abe, is the winner of the Gilder Lehrman Abraham Lincoln Prize.
